Podium vs GoHighLevel for contractors
Podium made texting customers normal for local businesses. Then its prices went up 46 to 60% in 2024 and the AI Employee became a sales quote. Here is what you still get for $399 to $599 a month, and what GoHighLevel does for a quarter of that.

Is Podium worth four times the price?
For most contractors with 1 to 10 trucks, no. Podium Core at $399 a month and Pro at $599 give you a polished text inbox, review requests, webchat, payments and bulk-text credits (250 and 500 a month), with the AI Employee quoted separately. GoHighLevel at $97 a month does review requests, two-way texting, webchat, payments links and pipelines, and adds an unlimited AI receptionist for another $97. Podium wins on out-of-the-box polish and support; GoHighLevel wins on price, flexibility and the phone.
What Podium does and what GoHighLevel does
Podium is a customer communication platform built around a shared text inbox. Review invites by text, website chat that turns into a text thread, text-to-pay, bulk messaging on a credit system and, on higher plans, AI tools (AI Reputation Specialist on Pro; AI Scheduler, Marketer and Salesperson on Signature). The AI Employee, which answers calls and texts, is an add-on with no public price. Podium removed public pricing late in 2025, then showed Core $399 and Pro $599 again in 2026; Signature is quote only.
GoHighLevel is a CRM, phone system and automation builder sold through agencies. You get the same text inbox, review requests, webchat and payment links, plus a real phone line, an AI receptionist, missed-call text-back, pipelines, estimate follow-up sequences, email, funnels and reactivation campaigns. It is less polished out of the box, which is why most contractors have an agency set it up.

When Podium is worth it
- You want it to just work. Podium’s inbox, mobile app and onboarding are smoother than anything you will build in GoHighLevel on your own.
- Multiple locations with a franchise feel. Location-level reporting and permissions are mature.
- Your team lives in the inbox. Office staff who text 200 customers a day will like Podium more.
- Vendor support matters. You are paying for a support team, not an agency.
When GoHighLevel is the better buy
- You are under 10 trucks. $4,800 to $7,200 a year for Podium is a truck payment. GoHighLevel plus an agency fee is usually half that and does more.
- You need the phone answered. Podium’s AI Employee is a quote on top of $399. GoHighLevel’s unlimited receptionist is a published $97.
- You send more than 500 texts a month. Spring reactivation to 1,000 old customers blows through Podium credits. GoHighLevel bills about $8 for it.
- You want follow-up, not just an inbox. Day 1/3/7 estimate chasing, seasonal campaigns and lead-source texting are automation jobs, and GoHighLevel is an automation tool.
What a year costs for a 3-truck HVAC company
Three trucks in San Antonio, 250 completed jobs a month in season, 150 inbound calls, one 800-contact reactivation text in spring and one in fall.
| Line item | Podium Pro | GoHighLevel (agency managed) |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | $599 × 12 = $7,188 | $97 × 12 = $1,164 (often bundled in an agency fee) |
| AI receptionist | Quote; assume $200/mo = $2,400 | $97 × 12 = $1,164 |
| Bulk texting (1,600 reactivation texts) | 500 credits/mo; extra credits quoted | About $13 |
| Phone minutes (150 calls × 4 min) | Depends on Podium Phones tier | About $86 for the year |
| Review requests (3,000) | Included | About $25 in segments |
| Yearly total | About $9,600 before processing fees | About $2,450 plus agency fee |
Even with a typical agency fee of $300 to $500 a month on top of GoHighLevel, you land around $6,000 to $8,500 a year with the phone answered, versus $9,600 for Podium with an estimated AI add-on. The AI estimate is ours, because Podium does not publish it; ask them for the number in writing.
Texas texting rules apply to both
Review requests, reactivation blasts and chat-to-text all count. Under Texas SB 140 (effective 1 September 2025), texts to prospects are telephone solicitation and must stay between 9am and 9pm Monday to Saturday and noon to 9pm Sunday. Texting past customers and people who contacted you first is exempt from registration under the November 2025 settlement, provided you keep the record. Podium applies send-time rules at the account level; in GoHighLevel we set them per workflow. Put your TACLA or TECL licence number in the text signature, as TDLR requires on advertising.
