Google reviews for roofers: prove you are the local one

After the April 2026 hail outbreak, every DFW homeowner had six roofers at the door and one question: which of these will still exist next year? Your reviews answer it. Here is how to get them from jobs that take six weeks and run through an insurance company.

Short answer

How does a roofing company get more Google reviews?

Ask twice on a roof replacement: a soft text the evening the crew finishes and cleans up, and the real review request the day the final invoice is paid and the depreciation check has cleared. Ask within an hour on repairs and after a free inspection that found nothing wrong. Text from the project manager’s name with the drone photo. Reply to every review within 48 hours. Roofers doing 30 roofs a month typically add 10 to 20 reviews.

Why it matters

What reviews do for a roofing company

BrightLocal’s 2026 survey says 97% of consumers read reviews for local businesses, 78% were asked to leave one in the past year, and 83% of those asked did. Nearly half (47%) want to see at least 20 reviews before they trust a rating, and 89% expect the business to reply. Roofing has the worst trust problem in home services. Every storm brings storm-chasers, and homeowners know it. A review count in the hundreds with recent dates is the single strongest signal that you are local and will honour the warranty. Roofing also has a 30-day sales cycle and 3 to 7% lead conversion per WebFX, so each review that moves you up the map pack is worth more than in faster trades.

The texts

The review request texts that work for roofing

One ask, timed to the moment they are happiest, from the tech by name, with the Google link and nothing else to click. No incentive, no “if you were happy” filter.

1

Day the crew finishes, soft text

“Hi [First name], [PM] from [Company]. Roof is on, yard is magnet-swept, and here is the drone shot: [photo]. We will send the final paperwork once your insurer releases depreciation. Anything you noticed that we should fix, reply here.”

2

Day the final invoice is paid, the real ask

“Thanks for choosing a local crew, [First name]. Everything is closed out with [insurer]. If you are happy with how it went, a Google review helps other [City] homeowners pick a roofer who will still be here next year: [link].”

3

After a repair, within 1 hour

“Glad we got the [leak / missing shingles] fixed today, [First name]. Here is the before and after: [photos]. If you have 30 seconds, a review helps us a lot: [link]. [PM], [Company].”

4

After a free inspection that found no damage

“Good news, [First name], your roof is fine and here is the report: [link]. No charge. If you appreciated an honest answer, a Google review mentioning it would mean a lot: [link].”

Timing

When to ask, by job type

Job type Best moment to ask Why
Insurance replacement Day the final invoice is paid, after depreciation clears Ask mid-claim and the adjuster delay becomes your review
Cash replacement Next morning after the clean-up They have seen it in daylight
Repair Within 1 hour, with photos Relief moment; photos give them something to say
Free inspection, no damage found Same day Honesty reviews are the best roofing reviews there are
Gutters / skylights Same evening Small job, short memory
Commercial flat roof After the final invoice, to the owner or property manager B2B reviews come from whoever approved the money
Replies

Replying to roofing reviews

  • Reply to every review within 48 hours. 89% of consumers expect it, and the reply is read by the next 50 people, not the reviewer.
  • Name the job, not the stars. “Glad the roof is sorted, thanks for having us out” beats “Thanks for the 5 stars!”
  • Negative reviews get a calm, specific reply and a phone call. Do not argue in public. Say what you will do, then do it. Most bad roofing reviews are about timing and the insurance process; reply with the actual sequence of dates and who controlled each.
  • Never offer anything for a review. The FTC rule in force since 21 October 2024 bans conditional incentives, and Google removes reviews it catches.
Texas

Texas notes for roofing review requests

Texas does not license roofers at state level, which is exactly why reviews matter more here than in licensed trades. Mention your RCAT or local registration if you have one. The National Weather Service confirmed softball-sized hail across Parker, Wise, Johnson, Rockwall and north-east Dallas counties between 24 and 29 April 2026, and an EF3 tornado at Mineral Wells, so 2026 reviews that mention “hail” and the neighbourhood are what next spring’s homeowners will search for. A review request goes to a customer who just paid you, so it is customer communication and exempt from SB 140 registration under the November 2025 settlement; still keep it between 9am and 9pm (noon to 9pm Sunday) and include your business name.

Automated

How we automate roofing review requests

1

Trigger from the paid invoice

Job marked complete and paid in ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro or Jobber fires the request at the right delay for that job type.

2

Tech’s name on it

The text comes from the technician who was in the home, which roughly doubles response in our client data.

3

One reminder, then stop

A second text three days later if no review appears, then nothing. No third ask.

4

Reply drafts

New reviews land in your inbox with a suggested reply that names the job; you approve or edit.

5

Monthly count

Reviews asked, received, average rating and reply time in one text on the first of the month.

FAQ

Questions owners ask

How many reviews should a roofing company have?

Enough that a homeowner stops counting. BrightLocal’s 2026 survey says 47% want to see at least 20; in competitive Texas metros the top three in the map pack usually have 200 or more.

When is the best time to send a review request?

The day the final invoice is paid on an insurance roof, next morning on a cash roof, within an hour on a repair, and same day after an honest no-damage inspection.

Should the review request come from the company or the tech?

The tech, by name. People review people. Our client data shows roughly double the response when the text is from the person who was in the home.

Can I offer a discount for a review?

No. The FTC rule effective 21 October 2024 bans incentives conditioned on a review, and Google removes reviews it detects as paid.

Is it legal to text review requests in Texas?

Yes. The customer just paid you, so it is customer communication and exempt from SB 140 registration under the November 2025 settlement. Send between 9am and 9pm.

How many times can I ask?

Once, with one reminder three days later. A third ask annoys customers and does not add reviews.

Why should I wait until the final invoice on an insurance roof?

Because the gap between the crew leaving and depreciation being released can be weeks, and a review request in that gap gets a complaint about the insurer aimed at you.

Should I ask for a review after a free inspection?

Yes, especially when you found nothing wrong. “They told me my roof was fine” is the most persuasive roofing review a homeowner can read.

Do drone photos help get reviews?

Yes. Attach the finished-roof drone shot to the ask. Customers post the photo with the review, and photo reviews stand out in the map pack.

How do I handle reviews from storm season volume?

Automate the ask from the paid invoice. In the weeks after a hail event you will close 50 to 100 roofs and nobody will remember to text.

Fifty roofs after the storm and twelve reviews?

We fire the review request the day the final invoice is paid, with the drone photo and the PM’s name, and draft the replies. You approve and the count climbs before next spring.
