Google reviews for cleaning companies: ask once, at the right moment

Your clients walk into a clean house every other Thursday and feel great for about an hour. That hour is when reviews happen. Here is how to catch it on the first clean and once a year after, without turning every visit into a request.

Short answer

How does a cleaning company get more Google reviews?

Ask within two hours of the first clean, when the client walks into the finished house, and again once a year for recurring clients, timed to a deep clean or holiday prep. Ask after move-out cleans once the deposit comes back. Text from the owner or team lead by name with the Google link, no incentive, one reminder at three days. A cleaning company with 150 recurring clients that asks properly adds 30 to 60 reviews in a year.

Why it matters

What reviews do for a cleaning company

BrightLocal’s 2026 survey says 97% of consumers read reviews for local businesses, 78% were asked to leave one in the past year, and 83% of those asked did. Nearly half (47%) want to see at least 20 reviews before they trust a rating, and 89% expect the business to reply. Cleaning is the trade where trust matters most: you are alone in someone’s home. Prospects read reviews for the words “same team”, “trustworthy”, “showed up” and “thorough”. BrightLocal’s finding that 47% want 20 or more reviews before trusting a rating hits cleaning companies hardest, because most have under 30. Cleaning leads also cost about $47 and convert fast, so the review count that moves you up the map pack pays back on the first client.

The texts

The review request texts that work for cleaning

One ask, timed to the moment they are happiest, from the tech by name, with the Google link and nothing else to click. No incentive, no “if you were happy” filter.

1

After the first clean, within 2 hours

“Hi [First name], [Name] from [Company]. Hope you walked into a house you like. If the team did a good job today, a quick Google review helps other [City] families trust us in their home: [link]. Anything we missed, reply here and we will fix it this week.”

2

Recurring client, once a year after a deep clean

“Hi [First name], it’s [Name]. You have had [Maria and Ana] for a year now. If they have earned it, a Google review mentioning them would make their month: [link]. Thank you for sticking with us.”

3

After a move-out clean, once the deposit is back

“Hi [First name], [Name] here. Did the landlord walkthrough go okay? If the clean helped you get the deposit back, a review would mean a lot: [link].”

4

Reminder, 3 days later, only if none posted

“Hi [First name], [Name] again. Just leaving the review link here in case it got buried: [link]. No pressure, thanks either way.”

Timing

When to ask, by job type

Job type Best moment to ask Why
First recurring clean Within 2 hours The walk-in moment
Recurring client Once a year, after a deep clean or holiday prep Ask every visit and they stop reading your texts
One-time deep clean Within 2 hours, with a before/after photo of one area Photo gives them something to say
Move-out / move-in clean After the deposit comes back or they have moved in Ask before the walkthrough and a landlord quibble becomes your review
Post-construction clean Same evening Dust-free house is dramatic
Airbnb / turnover Quarterly, to the host The host is your customer, not the guest
Replies

Replying to cleaning reviews

  • Reply to every review within 48 hours. 89% of consumers expect it, and the reply is read by the next 50 people, not the reviewer.
  • Name the job, not the stars. “Glad the house is sorted, thanks for having us out” beats “Thanks for the 5 stars!”
  • Negative reviews get a calm, specific reply and a phone call. Do not argue in public. Say what you will do, then do it. Most bad cleaning reviews are “they missed a spot” or a scheduling change; reply with the re-clean you offered and the date it happened.
  • Never offer anything for a review. The FTC rule in force since 21 October 2024 bans conditional incentives, and Google removes reviews it catches.
Texas

Texas notes for cleaning review requests

Cleaning companies need no state trade licence in Texas, so reviews that mention background checks, insurance and “same team” do the licensing work for you. A review request after a paid clean is customer communication and exempt from SB 140 registration under the November 2025 settlement, but a yearly ask to a recurring client is still a text to a customer, so keep it inside 9am to 9pm and include your business name. A review request goes to a customer who just paid you, so it is customer communication and exempt from SB 140 registration under the November 2025 settlement; still keep it between 9am and 9pm (noon to 9pm Sunday) and include your business name.

Automated

How we automate cleaning review requests

1

Trigger from the paid invoice

Job marked complete and paid in ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro or Jobber fires the request at the right delay for that job type.

2

Tech’s name on it

The text comes from the technician who was in the home, which roughly doubles response in our client data.

3

One reminder, then stop

A second text three days later if no review appears, then nothing. No third ask.

4

Reply drafts

New reviews land in your inbox with a suggested reply that names the job; you approve or edit.

5

Monthly count

Reviews asked, received, average rating and reply time in one text on the first of the month.

FAQ

Questions owners ask

How many reviews should a cleaning company have?

Enough that a homeowner stops counting. BrightLocal’s 2026 survey says 47% want to see at least 20; in competitive Texas metros the top three in the map pack usually have 200 or more.

When is the best time to send a review request?

Within two hours of the first clean, once a year for recurring clients after a deep clean, and after the deposit comes back on a move-out.

Should the review request come from the company or the tech?

The tech, by name. People review people. Our client data shows roughly double the response when the text is from the person who was in the home.

Can I offer a discount for a review?

No. The FTC rule effective 21 October 2024 bans incentives conditioned on a review, and Google removes reviews it detects as paid.

Is it legal to text review requests in Texas?

Yes. The customer just paid you, so it is customer communication and exempt from SB 140 registration under the November 2025 settlement. Send between 9am and 9pm.

How many times can I ask?

Once, with one reminder three days later. A third ask annoys customers and does not add reviews.

How often can I ask recurring cleaning clients for a review?

Once after the first clean and once a year after that. Asking every visit trains them to ignore your texts.

Should I mention the cleaners by name?

Yes. “If Maria and Ana earned it” gets more reviews and the reviews name the team, which future clients love.

What if a client replies that something was missed?

Fix it before the next scheduled visit and do not send the reminder. A fixed complaint often becomes a five-star review two weeks later.

Do reviews help cleaning companies on Google Local Services Ads?

Yes. Rating and review count affect LSA ranking, and cleaning leads cost about $47, so each spot up pays back fast.
