Google reviews for electricians: ask when the lights come on

A panel upgrade customer is not grateful the way a flooded-basement customer is. They are relieved the power is back and mildly impressed by the labelling. That is still enough for a five-star review, if you ask in the right 24 hours.

Short answer

How does a electrical company get more Google reviews?

For electricians, ask the evening the power is restored after a panel upgrade, the first time the EV charger finishes a charge, after the inspection passes on a rewire, and within an hour of a troubleshooting call that fixed the problem. Text from the electrician’s name with the Google link and a photo of the finished work. One reminder at three days, reply within 48 hours, no incentives. Shops doing 80 jobs a month typically add 8 to 15 reviews.

Why it matters

What reviews do for a electrical company

BrightLocal’s 2026 survey says 97% of consumers read reviews for local businesses, 78% were asked to leave one in the past year, and 83% of those asked did. Nearly half (47%) want to see at least 20 reviews before they trust a rating, and 89% expect the business to reply. Electrical customers shop slowly (about a 30-day sales cycle per WebFX) and compare three bids, which means they read reviews more carefully than a plumbing emergency allows. They are looking for words like “neat”, “explained”, “passed inspection” and “on time”. A review that says “the panel looks like a piece of art” closes the next panel job for you. In Texas metros the top electricians show 300 to 800 reviews.

The texts

The review request texts that work for electrical

One ask, timed to the moment they are happiest, from the tech by name, with the Google link and nothing else to click. No incentive, no “if you were happy” filter.

1

After a panel upgrade, same evening

“Hi [First name], [Electrician] from [Company]. Power is back on and the inspection is scheduled for [day]. Here is a photo of your new panel with everything labelled: [photo]. If you are happy with the work, a Google review helps a small shop like ours a lot: [link].”

2

After an EV charger install, next morning

“Morning [First name], it’s [Electrician]. Did the car charge overnight? If the [charger] is doing its job, a quick review would mean a lot to us: [link]. If anything is off, reply here and I will sort it.”

3

After a rewire, after inspection passes

“Inspection passed, [First name]. Thanks for putting up with us for [two weeks]. If you are happy with how the crew left the house, a Google review helps other [City] homeowners find us: [link].”

4

After a troubleshooting call, within 1 hour

“Glad we found that [tripping breaker / dead outlet], [First name]. If you have 30 seconds, a review helps more than you would think: [link]. Thanks for having me out. [Electrician], TECL [number].”

Timing

When to ask, by job type

Job type Best moment to ask Why
Panel upgrade Same evening, with a photo of the labelled panel Power is back and the panel looks good
EV charger Next morning after the first charge They just saved a trip to a charging station
Whole-home rewire After the inspection passes Ask before and any delay becomes the review
Troubleshooting / repair Within 1 hour Closest electricians get to a plumbing-style relief moment
Lighting / fans / outlets Same evening with a photo Small job, short memory
Generator install After the first outage it carries them through, or 1 week The generator proves itself in the first storm
Replies

Replying to electrical reviews

  • Reply to every review within 48 hours. 89% of consumers expect it, and the reply is read by the next 50 people, not the reviewer.
  • Name the job, not the stars. “Glad the panel is sorted, thanks for having us out” beats “Thanks for the 5 stars!”
  • Negative reviews get a calm, specific reply and a phone call. Do not argue in public. Say what you will do, then do it. Most bad electrician reviews are about scheduling the utility disconnect or inspection; reply with the actual dates and who controls them.
  • Never offer anything for a review. The FTC rule in force since 21 October 2024 bans conditional incentives, and Google removes reviews it catches.
Texas

Texas notes for electrical review requests

TDLR rule 16 TAC §73.51 requires your TECL number in advertising and on vehicles; put it in every customer text signature so there is never a question. Panel, EV and rewire work in Texas cities needs permits and inspections, and utility disconnects (Oncor, CenterPoint, Austin Energy, CPS) run on their own schedules, so time the ask for after the inspection passes, not after the rough-in. A review request goes to a customer who just paid you, so it is customer communication and exempt from SB 140 registration under the November 2025 settlement; still keep it between 9am and 9pm (noon to 9pm Sunday) and include your business name.

Automated

How we automate electrical review requests

1

Trigger from the paid invoice

Job marked complete and paid in ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro or Jobber fires the request at the right delay for that job type.

2

Tech’s name on it

The text comes from the technician who was in the home, which roughly doubles response in our client data.

3

One reminder, then stop

A second text three days later if no review appears, then nothing. No third ask.

4

Reply drafts

New reviews land in your inbox with a suggested reply that names the job; you approve or edit.

5

Monthly count

Reviews asked, received, average rating and reply time in one text on the first of the month.

FAQ

Questions owners ask

How many reviews should a electrical company have?

Enough that a homeowner stops counting. BrightLocal’s 2026 survey says 47% want to see at least 20; in competitive Texas metros the top three in the map pack usually have 200 or more.

When is the best time to send a review request?

Same evening after a panel or small job, next morning after an EV charger, and after the inspection passes on a rewire. Within an hour after a repair that fixed the problem.

Should the review request come from the company or the tech?

The tech, by name. People review people. Our client data shows roughly double the response when the text is from the person who was in the home.

Can I offer a discount for a review?

No. The FTC rule effective 21 October 2024 bans incentives conditioned on a review, and Google removes reviews it detects as paid.

Is it legal to text review requests in Texas?

Yes. The customer just paid you, so it is customer communication and exempt from SB 140 registration under the November 2025 settlement. Send between 9am and 9pm.

How many times can I ask?

Once, with one reminder three days later. A third ask annoys customers and does not add reviews.

Why do electricians get fewer reviews than plumbers?

Less drama. Planned work does not create the relief moment. The fix is a photo of the finished work and asking the evening the power comes back.

Should I send a photo with the review request?

Yes. A labelled panel or a clean charger install gives the customer something specific to write, and specific reviews rank better and convince more.

Should I ask before or after the inspection?

After. If the inspector flags something, the review you asked for yesterday turns sour.

Do reviews matter for electricians in Google Local Services Ads?

Yes. Review count and rating affect LSA ranking. Electrical LSA leads commonly cost $40 to $90, so a higher spot pays back quickly.
