Goodcall vs Dialzara vs a managed AI receptionist
Self-serve AI phone agents start at $29 a month and you can set one up tonight. The catch is that you are the one setting it up, watching the transcripts, and fixing what it says. Here is how the two most popular ones compare with having it done for you.

Self-serve or managed?
If you take under 100 calls a month, are comfortable editing scripts yourself and only need messages taken and simple bookings, Dialzara Pro at $99 (220 minutes) or Goodcall Starter at $79 (100 unique callers, unlimited minutes) is a fair deal. If you take more than 150 calls a month, need bookings pushed into Housecall Pro, Jobber or ServiceTitan, want missed-call text-back and estimate follow-up from the same number, and do not want to babysit transcripts, a managed AI receptionist at about $97 a month plus an agency fee is the better buy. The software cost is similar; you are paying for the work.
What Goodcall and Dialzara do
Goodcall prices by unique callers, not minutes: Starter $79 (100 callers), Growth $129 (250), Scale $249 (500), with unlimited minutes and 50 cents per caller over the cap. A customer calling from a new number counts again. Cheaper plans allow one logic flow and short call history (7 days on Starter). It answers, takes messages, books into Google or Outlook calendars and sends text follow-ups.
Dialzara prices by minutes: Business Lite $29 (60 minutes), Pro $99 (220), Plus $199 (500), Elite $349 (1,000), with overage of about 35 to 48 cents a minute. You pick a voice, paste your business details, and it answers, qualifies, takes messages and can book via calendar links and Zapier. Both are built for you to configure yourself.
A managed AI receptionist is the same kind of voice AI (ours runs on HighLevel’s Voice AI, $97 a month unlimited) with someone else doing the scripting, the software connection, the number port, the A2P text registration, the Texas send windows, and the weekly transcript review.

When Goodcall or Dialzara is the right call
- You are tiny and technical. A one-person handyman or cleaning business under 100 calls a month that is happy to tinker.
- You need it tonight. Both are live in an hour. A managed setup waits on the phone carrier.
- Message taking is enough. If you call everyone back yourself anyway, you do not need bookings pushed into software.
- Budget is under $100 and fixed. Dialzara Pro at $99 is about the floor for a usable plan.
When a managed receptionist is the better buy
- Volume or seasonality. An HVAC company at 400 July calls is $200 over Goodcall Scale’s cap (500 unique callers is fine, but 400 × 4 minutes is 1,600 minutes, which is $600 of Dialzara overage). Unlimited matters.
- Wrong answers cost money. A self-serve agent that quotes the wrong dispatch fee or books a Saturday you do not work is your problem to find. Managed means someone reads the transcripts.
- The phone is one of three leaks. Hatch’s 2026 data has 27% of calls unanswered, but most shops also lose estimates and reviews. A managed setup covers all three from one number.
- Texas texting rules. SB 140 send windows, licence numbers in signatures and A2P registration are the agency’s job, not yours.
What a month costs at 250 calls
A Fort Worth electrical contractor takes 250 calls a month averaging 4 minutes (1,000 minutes) from about 220 unique callers, and sends 60 estimates.
| Line item | Goodcall Growth | Dialzara Elite | Managed AI receptionist |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plan | $129 (250 callers) | $349 (1,000 minutes) | $97 unlimited AI + about $12 in call minutes |
| Overage this month | $0 (at cap; next month’s new numbers cost $0.50 each) | $0 (at cap; any busier month is $0.35–$0.48/min) | $0 |
| Estimate follow-up (60 × 3 texts) | Not available | Not available | About $1.50 |
| Review requests | Not available | Not available | Included |
| Management time | Yours, ~3–5 hours/mo | Yours, ~3–5 hours/mo | Agency fee $200–$500 |
| Monthly total | $129 + your time | $349 + your time | About $310–$610 |
On software alone the managed option is the cheapest. The agency fee is what you are deciding about: whether 3 to 5 hours of your month reviewing calls and fixing scripts is worth $200 to $500. At an electrician’s hourly rate it usually is, and the follow-up and reviews come with it.
Texas notes for self-serve users
If you set up Goodcall or Dialzara yourself, three things are on you. First, their text follow-ups count as telephone solicitation to prospects under Texas SB 140 (effective 1 September 2025); keep them between 9am and 9pm (noon to 9pm Sunday). Texting people who called you first is exempt from registration under the November 2025 settlement. Second, Texas is one-party consent for recording, so the recordings are fine, but check the vendor keeps them long enough to be useful (Goodcall Starter keeps 7 days). Third, TDLR requires your TECL or TACLA number in advertising, which includes the text signature. A managed setup has all three done before launch.
Questions owners ask
How much does Goodcall cost?
Starter $79, Growth $129 and Scale $249 a month (about $66, $108 and $208 billed annually), with 100, 250 and 500 unique callers and unlimited minutes. Extra callers are 50 cents each.
How much does Dialzara cost?
Business Lite $29 (60 minutes), Pro $99 (220), Plus $199 (500) and Elite $349 (1,000) a month, with overage of about 35 to 48 cents a minute.
What is a “unique caller” on Goodcall?
A distinct phone number in the month. The same customer calling from a second phone counts twice.
Can Goodcall or Dialzara book into Housecall Pro or Jobber?
Not directly. Both book into Google or Outlook calendars or calendar links, and reach field software through Zapier, which you set up.
Do they do missed-call text-back?
Both send a text after a call. Neither texts a caller who hangs up before the AI answers, and neither runs multi-day estimate follow-up.
What does “managed” actually mean?
Someone else writes the script, connects your software, ports the number, registers your texting, sets Texas send windows, and reviews transcripts with you weekly.
How much does a managed AI receptionist cost?
About $97 a month for unlimited AI on HighLevel plus roughly 1.2 cents a minute, plus an agency fee that typically runs $200 to $500 a month depending on what else is included.
Which is fastest to set up?
Goodcall and Dialzara, same day. A managed receptionist takes about two weeks, mostly waiting on number porting and A2P registration.
Will callers know it is AI?
Yes if they ask, and all three should say so. Most callers accept it when they get booked quickly; what they hate is voicemail.
Can I start self-serve and move to managed later?
Yes. Keep your number, export call history, and the managed setup takes over. Many clients come to us after six months of DIY.
