What does Conversation AI do in plain terms?

Conversation AI answers written messages the way a trained front-desk person would: it reads the incoming text, finds the answer in the business’s own information, replies in the business’s tone, and steers the conversation toward a booking. It works inside the GoHighLevel conversations inbox, so a person can read every exchange and take over at any point.

Conversation AI is the text counterpart of Voice AI. Voice AI answers phone calls; Conversation AI answers everything typed. Both use the same contact record, the same calendars and the same workflows, which is why a lead can start on Instagram, continue by SMS and end with a booked call without repeating anything.

The agent runs in one of three modes: off, suggestive, or auto-pilot. In suggestive mode it drafts replies for a person to approve. In auto-pilot it sends them. Most US service businesses start in suggestive mode for two weeks, then switch to auto-pilot once the answers have been reviewed.

How does Conversation AI know what to say?

Conversation AI answers from a knowledge base the business supplies: web pages it is pointed at, question-and-answer pairs typed in by hand, and a set of instructions that describe the business, its tone and its rules. It does not answer from the open internet, which is why a well-built agent rarely invents a service the business does not offer.

The instructions matter more than the volume of material. An agent told to ask for the caller’s name and the service they need, to offer the two nearest available slots, and to hand off any pricing question above a set amount, behaves predictably. An agent given a 40-page website and no rules gives long answers and books nothing.

Booking works through a connected calendar. When the agent has the service type and a preferred time, it checks availability, offers real slots and books the one the customer picks. The confirmation and reminder workflows then take over.

  • Knowledge sources: website URLs, uploaded FAQs, typed question-and-answer pairs
  • Behaviour instructions: greeting, questions to ask, what to never promise, when to hand off
  • Booking: one or more calendars the agent may book into
  • Hand-off rules: keywords or intents that notify a person and pause the agent
Cost

What does Conversation AI cost?

Conversation AI is billed as metered AI usage on top of the GoHighLevel plan, not as a flat add-on, and the rates are set by HighLevel and published in its AI product pricing article. An agency can only rebill that usage to its clients, with or without a markup, on the $497 per month Agency Pro plan; on the $297 plan the usage is absorbed by the agency.

For planning, the text agent is a small line next to Voice AI. A phone agent is metered per minute of talk time at rates from roughly $0.10 to $0.20 per minute for speech-to-speech, while text replies cost a fraction of a cent each. We show both numbers in the monthly report so the client sees usage against bookings.

Setup

How do you set up Conversation AI for a service business?

A working text agent takes about a week to configure and two weeks of review before auto-pilot.

1

Connect the channels

Register the SMS number, install the chat widget, connect the Facebook page, Instagram account and WhatsApp number that the business actually uses.

2

Write the instructions

Business description, services, hours, the three questions to ask every lead, the answers it must never give, and the hand-off triggers.

3

Load the knowledge base

Point the agent at the services and FAQ pages, then add question-and-answer pairs for the twenty questions customers ask most.

4

Connect the calendar and workflow

Choose which calendar the agent books into and which workflow runs after a booking or a hand-off.

5

Run in suggestive mode, then auto-pilot

Review every drafted reply for two weeks, fix the instructions where the draft was wrong, then switch to auto-pilot and keep reading the inbox weekly.

Limits

What should Conversation AI not be asked to do?

Conversation AI should not quote custom prices, give medical or legal advice, or handle complaints. Those are hand-off intents: the agent acknowledges the message, tells the customer a person will reply, and notifies the owner. Keeping those three categories out of the agent is what keeps a clinic or a law firm compliant and what keeps reviews positive.

The agent also needs a person reading the inbox. Auto-pilot removes the typing, not the responsibility. We schedule a weekly review of every conversation the agent handled in the first month and a monthly review after that.

FAQ

Common questions about Conversation AI

Is Conversation AI the same as a chatbot?

It is a chatbot in the sense that it replies to typed messages, but it reads from the contact record, books into real calendars and runs on every connected channel from one inbox. A website-only chatbot does none of those.

Will it reply at 2 am?

Yes, unless you set hours. Most businesses let it reply at any hour and book, because a lead that writes at 2 am and gets an answer in a minute is the lead a competitor loses.

Can it speak more than one language?

Yes. It replies in the language the customer writes in when the instructions allow it.

Does Conversation AI replace Voice AI?

No. Conversation AI handles typed channels and Voice AI handles phone calls. A business with a busy phone line needs both; a business that gets leads mainly by form and DM may need only Conversation AI at first.
